Vermouth Past & Present: My latest piece for GuildSomm was a fun and challenging one, exploring an oft overlooked and under appreciated drinks category.
Vermouth is an aromatized, fortified wine. The drink is so immersed in cocktail culture that it often flies under the wine-education radar, though it is, indeed, made from a base wine, fortified, infused with botanicals, and sweetened to varying degrees. And if you’re a student of wine at any level and this wasn’t in your curriculum, you are not alone. 😉 Read on to get all the nitty gritty details about the category, including insights from emerging trend-setters producing tasty sips for your next imbibe.

Being a vermouth and vermut fan, enjoyed your article and learning more about this libation’s history. I was, however, surprised you did not mention Andy Quady and Quady Winery. He made America’s first craft vermouth, Vya Vermouth, in 1999 in California.
